グアム日本人会の皆様

はじめまして。このたび、日本国総領事としてグアムに着任しました上田　晋（うえだ・すすむ）と申します。私は、外務省入省後、これまでヨーロッパの日本大使館での勤務を多く経験しましたが、アメリカ及び太平洋地域での勤務は初めてです。日本と深いつながりのあるグアムにおいて皆様と共に活動できることを大変光栄に思っております。

50年を超える日本人会の活動は大変活発であり、グアムのコミュニティにも広く受け入れられていることに、心からの敬意と尊敬の念を表します。私も、皆様とともに、Guam Japan Festivalをはじめとする行事や日本人学校の活動に参加することを楽しみにしております。

今年は、文化行事をグアム日本人会と共催で実施させていただき、大きな相乗効果を生んだとうかがいました。今後も、皆様、そして地域コミュニティとの協力を通じて、日・グアム関係の更なる発展に貢献できるよう努めてまいります。また安全の確保や支援も含めた領事サービスの充実に引き続き努めて参ります。どうぞよろしくお願い申し上げます。

会員の皆様へ

平素よりグアム日本人会の活動に温かいご理解とご支援を賜り、心より御礼申し上げます。

このたび、第32代（55期）グアム日本人会会長を拝命いたしました小和野秀夫です。
半世紀以上にわたる長い歴史と伝統を誇るグアム日本人会の会長という大役をお引き受けするにあたり、その責任の重さを深く感じるとともに、この日本人会を次の世代へつないでいく使命を強く感じております。

まずは、これまで日本人会を支えてこられた歴代会長をはじめ、理事・監事・事務局、そして会員の皆様の長年にわたるご尽力に心より敬意と感謝を申し上げます。諸先輩方が築いてこられた伝統を大切に継承しながら、時代の変化に柔軟に対応し、新しい価値を創造する日本人会を目指してまいります。

グアム日本人会は、会員相互の親睦を深めるだけでなく、日本文化の継承・発信、日本人学校への支援、地域社会との交流など、グアムに暮らす日本人コミュニティの中心的な役割を担ってきました。
一方で、足元では円安や中東情勢に起因した資源価格高騰、2度のスーパー台風の到来などがあり、観光を主産業としたグアムを取り巻く環境は厳しくありますが、このような状況だからこそ、日本人会もこれまでの活動を大切にしながらも難局を乗り越えられるよう進化していく必要があります。

2026年度は、「会員と地域社会の共創」を重要なテーマとして取り組んでまいります。
昨年度より準備を進めておりました会員限定の優待サービス特典をいよいよ開始いたします。「日本人会に入会したい」「日本人会に入っていて良かった」と感じていただける魅力ある会員制度を目指してまいります。また、日本人会事務局についても、会員同士をつなぐ交流の場として、整備してまいりたいと考えております。
そして、グアム国際日本人学校への支援や経営監督は、日本人会の重要な使命の一つです。子どもたちが安心して学び、夢を育み、未来へ羽ばたいていける環境を守るため、学校・保護者・地域社会と連携しながら、引き続き継続的な支援を行ってまいります。

さらに、グアム日本人会は日本人コミュニティだけではなく、グアム社会全体の発展にも貢献できる存在でありたいと考えています。地域コミュニティや企業、各種団体などとの共創を積極的に進め、日本文化や観光、教育、ビジネス、地域イベントなど幅広い分野で協力関係を深めることで、地域経済の活性化と持続可能な地域づくりに貢献していければと思います。日本人会が地域や人をつなぐ「架け橋」となり、新たな価値をともに創り出していきたいと考えています。

グアム日本人会は、理事だけで運営できるものではありません。会員の皆様お一人おひとりのご参加、ご意見、ご協力
があってこそ、その活動は成り立っています。
理事・監事・事務局が一丸となり、「この地域を共創していく」という強い想いのもと、誰もがお互いをリスペクトし合い、誇りを持てる日本人会づくりに全力で取り組んでまいります。
会員の皆様には、今後も変わらぬご支援とご協力を賜りますよう、心よりお願い申し上げます。

To Japan Club of Guam Members,

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for your continued understanding and generous support of the activities of the Japan Club of Guam.

My name is Hideo Owano, and I have been appointed as the President of the Japan Club of Guam.
As I take on this important responsibility as President of an organization with more than half a century of history and tradition, I am deeply aware of the weight of this role and strongly feel the mission of passing this Japan Club on to the next generation.

First of all, I would like to extend my heartfelt respect and appreciation to all former presidents, directors, auditors, secretariat staff, and members who have supported the Japan Club over the years. While cherishing and inheriting the traditions established by our predecessors, we will also respond flexibly to the changing times and strive to create new value for the Japan Club.

The Japan Club of Guam has played a central role in the Japanese community in Guam—not only by promoting friendship among members, but also by preserving and sharing Japanese culture, supporting the Japanese school, and fostering exchanges with the local community.
At the same time, Guam is currently facing a challenging environment, including the weak yen, rising resource prices caused by the conflicts in the Middle East, and the impact of two super typhoons (Shinraku and Bavi). Because Guam relies heavily on tourism as its main industry, these circumstances affect the entire community. In times like these, it is essential for the Japan Club to continue valuing its traditional activities while also evolving to overcome new challenges.

For FY2026, we will focus on the theme of “Co-creation with our members and the local community.”
After preparations made since last year, we are pleased to launch a Japan Club of Guam members-only benefit
program. Our goal is to create an attractive membership system that makes people feel, “I would like to join the Japan Club,” and “I am glad to be a Japan Club member.” We also hope to further develop the Japan Club’s office into a place where members can connect and interact with one another.
In addition, support for and oversight of the Japanese International Academy of Guam (Japanese school) remains one of the Japan Club’s most important missions. We will continue to work closely with the school, parents, and the local community to ensure that children can learn in a safe environment, pursue their dreams, and grow into the future with confidence.

Furthermore, we believe that the Japan Club of Guam should contribute not only to the Japanese community but also to the development of Guam society as a whole. We will actively promote collaboration with local communities, businesses, and various organizations, and deepen cooperative relationships in a wide range of fields such as Japanese culture, tourism, education, business, and community events. Through these efforts, we hope to contribute to regional economic revitalization and sustainable community development. We aspire for the association to serve as a bridge connecting people and communities and to create new value together.

The Japan Club of Guam cannot be operated by the board members alone. Its activities are possible only through the participation, opinions, and cooperation of each and every Japan Club member.
Together with the directors, auditors, and secretariat, we will work as one team with a strong commitment to
co-creating the future of our community, and we will do our utmost to build a Japan Club in which everyone respects one another and can take pride.

グアム日本人会は、1972年8月17日、会員相互の親睦、知識の涵養、福祉の増進、及び日本・グアムの親善ならびに地域社会への貢献を目的として創設されました。
グアムに住む日本人が、お互いに助け合い、楽しく元気に暮らして頂けるよう、グアム最大級のイベント『日本人会春祭り』をはじめ、様々な事業を行っています。
その事業を通じて、日本とグアム・アメリカの親善活動に貢献しています。
